Drone photos run up to 48 megapixels, and the defects that matter can be a few dozen pixels wide. Shrink the frame to fit the model and they disappear. Cut it into tiles and they survive.
80 tiles of 1024 px with 20% overlap. A 40 px crack reaches the model at 40 px, instead of about 5 px when the whole frame is shrunk to 1024.
